There is a lot of information about World Of Warcraft character class advantages and disadvantages, written in great detail and probably rewritten many times over. But that is not what I want to talk about today. There is a pretty scarce information about which one to pick if you are new player and just starting up you adventure in the World Of Warcraft.
I remember my frustration when I first started the game - so many choices, so many races and so many classes - now which one is best for a noob like me? Here are few tips - all WoW character classes can be divided by roles they take while playing in groups or raiding (that is what you eventually will be doing) - classes that only do damage (DPS), classes that heal, classes that can tank (draw monster attention to themselves) and hybrids - ones who can change their roles depending on preferences.
While obvious choice would be starting with the "easiest to play class" - meaning, hunter, I would advice against that. Why? Because, after you reach your level cap and will want to participate in end-game raiding, you will find that there is little demand for a DPS class or a hunters for that matter. Why? Just because there are many many hunters available. You will find yourself in the middle of a pretty tough competition for a good spot in the raids.
So, I would suggest you try out any of the hybrid classes - druids or paladins in particular. First of all, they are very easy to play and character leveling is easy and fun, with little downtime. Second reason - you can match any of three main roles - dps, healer or tank in the party and the third reason - when you get tired doing same thing over and over (e.g. pushing buttons 1,2,3 to "DPS") you can easily swap your talent tree to something new and try out completely new game style - healer or tank for instance.
Druid would be even more fun as you can actually have four roles - DPS as a feral cat (close combat), DPS as a moonkin (ranged magical damage), tanking as a feral bear or healing as a restoration druid - gives plenty space for maneuvering and is a lot of fun even after years of playing!
While hunter will be a great class for fast leveling and realm exploration in World Of Warcraft, it will leave little choices for end-game raiding and you will have to wait very long time for a random dungeons to get your rewards. I strongly advice to start this fantastic game with one of the hybrid classes - paladin or a druid.
